Unlike
the more kinetic atmospheres of coastal beaches and swimming pools,
the relative stillness of fresh water offers a respite from the
demands of modern life. Here I find women and men, children and
adults, of many nationalities, immersed in a sole body of water. It
is a social, racial, and economic equalizer. At first I was drawn
by the placid surface where humid air meets deep dark water. Where
life teems in the shadow of a cove. What I have since discovered is
the magnetism of these places - such that assembles a human
community participating in an ageless form of personal relief and
collective connection.
